In structural geology, en échelon veins are structures within rock caused by shear fraction. This process, further described as ‘a delay pattern in which the end of one fold is connected with the start of a new fold’, lays bare a moment of plural time. It can extend our understanding of linear time as a sequence of folds, and propose a (different) shape of time. Using thin sections as source material, the images touch on the medium of photography and drawing but naturally transcend both. In the video ‘En échelon’ the corridors from the subterranean site are carved out following the échelon formation. It is from these cohesions that the composition unfurls, revealing a larger pattern operative inside the work.
